A reactionary response to the perceived dullness of vaporwave, Hardvapour is an off-shoot that attempts to turn the utopian aesthetics of the genre on its head, replacing the stereotypical Japanese aesthetics with equally stereotypical Eastern European aesthetics (with a particular focus on [[wikipedia:Ukraine|Ukraine]]). Most music considered to be hardvapour is inspired by [[wikipedia:Hardcore (electronic dance music genre)|hardcore techno]], particularly [[wikipedia:Gabber|gabber]] music.
