deep dark trench is the sixth album released by chris†††, exploring the events of 9/11 in three acts.[1][2] In an interview, he states that: "[The] first act being the event itself," "The second act is 2001 to now", and "The third act is years later, our generation telling our kids, 'forget it.'".[3]

While the news for a new album appeared on the national tragedy singles, subtle hints of the title were present. Examples include the "trench" tag on falling, the full name on Twitter with a picture of sacrificial lamb,[4], and the addition of "ddt" in the description of notification. Act I would be released onto Spotify on August 8, 2019,[5][6] with the complete album and sacrificial lamb not being released until December of that year.[7]

Christine W. Chandler (Also known as CWC) created the album cover, with chris††† paying her for the use of the artwork.[8] The artwork and CWC's story draw a connection to the story told throughout deep dark trench. In chris††† own words: "cwc has been through hell and had lost her 'innocence' to the internet. the parallels between her story and the story i'm formulating with this upcoming album is why i chose her artwork as the cover."[9] He also states: "the album has no samples or hints at cwc, but uses the artwork purely as a visual. it wasn't my intent to make light of her situation, and using of her initials was purely to keep the visual aesthetic consistent".[10]

All of the artwork comes from CWC's Sonichu comics. The cover art for deep dark trench comes from issue 7 page 25.[11] The cover art for falling comes from issue 7 page 29.[12] The cover art for notification comes from issue 7 page 40.[13] chris††† also used a page from the comic for sacrificial lamb.[14]

chris††† cleaned most of deep dark trench of 9/11 audio after visiting the Memorial Museum. He explains: "I had to self-censor myself because I remember it, but I don't remember it like my parents, and my neighbors remembered it. In that moment, I was sort of beside myself about it."[15]

chris††† would later release deep dark trench bside two years later, containing demos and unreleased material.
