煙 (Smoke) is an album by フジネットワークシステム. The album was given a self-published cassette later in 2016, which was then reissued by Tiger Blood Tapes in 2021, who also published a vinyl release in 2022.

Sonically, the album consists entirely of slowed-down and revered tracks from the 1997 Steven Halpern new-age compilation Stop Smoking. The compilation is sampled by this release in full, including preserving the track order and track names between the album and its sample source.

Description

One day in June 2016, on a whim, I decided to make an anonymous alias separate from OSCOB. I quickly scrambled together some ambient samples, opened up google translate, and thus フジネットワークシステム [Fuji Network Systems] was born.

I was curious if I could garner some attention seemingly out of nowhere just by coming into the scene totally anonymous (like in the "good old days") and it kinda worked. I've been told 煙 [Smoke] has become something of a "cult classic" these days. But what the fuck do I know?

I released 5 albums under the FNS moniker. Four of those albums (this one included) got reworked, cannibalized, and frankensteined together to create my 3 hour ambient album 帰宅 [Going Home] oscob.bandcamp.com/album/--4

I've decided to bring this album back from the dead so others may enjoy it again.
